The Pterophyllum scalare is one of the most popular fish in the aquarium hobby due to its very characteristic shape. Coming from the Amazon basins, it is one of the most kept cichlids in community aquariums, but they can be a bit territorial. Specimens bred in captivity are very resistant, have a voracious appetite and even make postures with some ease, when the conditions are right. Given the size they reach, they should be kept in aquariums with some height, 50cm or more will be ideal, so that the fish can develop and grow correctly.
