Emmerdale's Charley Webb confirms TV return after Debbie exit

Emmerdale star Charley Webb has revealed that fans will get to see her back on TV before 2023 is out, two years after she left her role as Debbie Dingle.

Charley had been an Emmerdale fixture since first joining in 2002 and Debbie was involved in countless dramatic storylines, including becoming a teenage mum to Sarah Sugden and being involved in several doomed relationships.

However, she confirmed in January last year that she had no plans to return to the soap after taking maternity leave following the birth of her third son, Ace, saying: "I never felt the need to announce it which is why we didn't."

But it looks like Charley's fans will be seeing her again on their TVs within the next six months, with the actress dropping some hints during an Instagram Q&A with her followers yesterday (June 25).

When asked, "When will we see you back on our screens? Can't wait!", Charley replied with, "Before the end of the year". She added a TV and a filming emoji, alongside a photo of herself looking knowingly at the camera.

The actress did not, however, give away any clues as to what her new TV project is, so fans will have to wait to find out whether this is a new project or a potential return to the Dales.

An Emmerdale spokesperson confirmed last year that "there are no current plans for Debbie Dingle to return", and the actress herself has not suggested that she might be back anytime soon.

The character was last seen in early 2021, when Debbie made a surprise return to the village and teamed up with Priya Kotecha to take revenge on Al Chapman, after he secretly dated both of them at the same time.

After Al manipulated Debbie's mum Charity Dingle into revealing the truth about Debbie's revenge plan, Debbie declared that she wanted nothing more to do with her mum and headed back to Scotland, where she'd built a new life.

However, Debbie is still very much in the thoughts of the Dingle clan, with her daughter Sarah recently taking Chloe Harris up to stay with her in Scotland while she was pregnant with baby Reuben.

Charley, who is married to Emmerdale's David Metcalfe actor Matthew Wolfenden, revealed earlier this year that she has given up work on her handcrafted toys business, Nördi Bäbi, due to other work commitments.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
