Japanese Ukiyo-e Hiroshige Utagawa

Ukiyo-e is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties, kabuki actors, sumo wrestlers, people's lives, and landscapes. Utagawa Hiroshige's paintings were called Hiroshige Blue because a beautiful blue color characterized them. Hiroshige Blue influenced Western painters such as Impressionist Van Gogh and Monet, who originated in France in the late 19th century.
