Phillippe joins what has become a laundry list of actors to screen test for the role including Mike Vogel ("She's Out of My League"), Garret Hedlund ("Tron Legacy"), Chris Evans ("Fantastic Four"), Scott Porter ("Friday Night Lights"), Chace Crawford ("Gossip Girl") and Michael Cassidy ("Smallville.")   One leading contender, John Krasinski, reportedly shot a screen test with a number of other Marvel Universe actors. 

They must have considered every actor in Hollywood for this role, when the heck are we going to cut the bullcrap and get down to brass tacks and announce the actual actor who is going to play this part already. Seriously Marvel get your shit together and hire someone already.

I gotta say I know this is a big role, but lets be serious; it is time to pick someone. I think this is a better choice, but I still think Chris Pine would have been a great choice also. Other than that Matt Damon and Sam Worthington would have been cool also. But lets pick someone and get going with the actors training. 

Honestly I didn't think of Ryan but I think he would do pretty well. I love the movie The Way of the Gun with him and Benicio Del Toro

Actually, I've never heard of him before in my life, I just want Marvel to pick someone already and this guy looks more like a Steve than the others.

He's too...pretty for the role. I actually like Wilson Bethel, I think he's make a great Captain America. We don't need a pop star, we need a fighter.

although i like the thought of ryan in tights.....i don't see him as Cap. Hawkeye would be a better fit.

RYAN MCPARTLIN for Captain America, he's the best choice ever.  Not any of these other guys, Ryan McPartlin.

I reckon Benjamin McKenzie would make a good young cap.

To be blunt all of these actors are pretty rotten and I'd be very dissappointed if Marvel went with any of them. Though wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised by an awesome portrayal of Steve.
If I HAD to choose from this bunch, I'd go with  John Krasinski, Scott Porter or Ryan Phillippe.

He sounds like a good choice for cap. At first i was hoping that jeremy renner would be cap but then i realized that he would make a better hawkeye. oh well idk about chris evans though, i highly doubt that he'll be captain america

what is it with the majority of comic book heads & their innate inability to cast well for potential comic book flicks?  Ryan Phillippe???  are u kiddin' me???  he cant act worth a damn, for one...  hes like 5'8" (educated guess)...  & he comes across as a douche bag in everything, even Way of the Gun which was an otherwise underrated flick...  do u REALLY think he should rep the U.S. as Cap???  Chris Evans???  inferiorego's criticism about Jim Krasinski kinda applies to him too, i.e. we'd be waiting for him to say somethin' sarcastic every 2 minutes...  No Scott Porter, Chance Crawford or Michael Cassidy either...  We demand an ACTOR, not a glorified pop star...  i'm on the Garret Hedlund bandwagon myself...  Vogel wouldn't be terrible...   Isn't there anybody else???

Why do I get the feeling that all of these "contender" leaks are intentional? Like, we're doing the studio's market research for them...

First off I can't believe someone actually WANTS howie long in a movie, let alone leading the avengers in the future (seriously, wtf??) - Second, marvel needs to get someone who has the acting chops to step up to Robert Downey Jr and actually command the screen AWAY from him - which none of their choices seem to be able to do.   
 
What marvel needs to realize is that when starting a new franchise going with a relative unknown is fine, or one of the midgrade actors they're sifting through (although chris evans is great, he will always be johnny storm in my mind, since he single handily made those movies what they were - and he should be the only actor brought back for the FF reboot), but since they already started the 'avengers' franchise with ironman (and possibly the inc. hulk) you need a big star to stand along side the big stars you already have. 
 
A couple of people here have already said it, but honestly the only choice for cap that makes since to stand next to downey jr and possibly ed norton (if he quits being a baby about it) is matt frickin' damon.  Come on, really-  jason bourne is already steve rodgers.  The bourne trilogy has shown he has the action skills for this type of movie - and pretty much every movie the guys been in shows his range, which someone like steve rodgers will need.  He'll need to go from doubting himself, to slowly gaining confidence, to later leading the the most powerful group of super heroes the marvel universe has ever seen.  Please marvel-  get your act together!

If Ryan Philipe is cast as Captain America I will not see this movie.

I can't see Ryan playing captain America. I think he is too much of a pretty boy. plus he doesn't really do well in serious roles. If they did pick him Captain America would come off cheesy and awkward.
