As “Lifetime Honorary President” of IOHSK I offer my enthusiastic welcome to the participants of this

6

th International IOHSK Conference. I am pleased that it will be co-hosted by the Faculty of Sports

Science at Chulalongkorn University, a highly rated and highly ranked University.

The conference theme, “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” is particularly relevant to me as these

concepts have been an important focus of my research (i.e., field-based studies related to physical

activity and public health) and on the development of school-based curricula (e.g., SPARK). Sadly, our

research in the U.S shows that female, senior, and non-White individuals engage in less physical

activity than their counterparts. Additionally, I grew up in Canada (which has two official languages)

and in the public schools where I taught, we were required to have a matching female interscholastic

team for each male team. There is strength in diversity. The conference brings together diverse

researchers, practitioners, and policy makers from many countries to discuss current needs and

perhaps more importantly, how to provide optimal service to the underserved. The conference themes

will be addressed through unique and innovative lenses, and I want to thank the presenters who

stepped forward to share their knowledge, experiences, and expertise: both face-to-face and virtually.

I am particularly pleased that program offerings are being provided in a hybrid fashion and that they

will be made available to members that were unable to attend (e.g., costs, convenience, proximity, and

aging) are all equity issues. I applaud Dr. Hosung So and the other organizers (i.e., the Board Members,

Conference Organizing Committee, and the International Student Council members) for such a wellplanned program. I have enjoyed all my visits to Thailand, and I am sure you will too! Enjoy!
