These were the most common pet tarantula for decades while exports from Chile were being sent out in huge numbers. Thankfully those exports have since stopped as it couldn’t be good for the sustainability of this species in the wild. Today they are only available as captive bred slings, which come with a higher price tag, but are a bit more ethical for the pet trade. This spider is known for its incredibly docile nature. However I have seen some get rather update when they are disturbed. Most are accepting of some gentle handling though. These were described all the way back in 1837 by French scientist Charles Walckenaer. This terrestrial spider from Chile gets about 5”-6” and is still sought after by beginners for it’s usually calm demeanor.
