Sea Breeze MP leads a ‘Call to Prayer’ for the community

RESIDENTS of the Sea Breeze community, as well as people across New Providence, are being called on to come together for a time a prayer, praise and worship.

The “Call to Prayer” event, which is being presented by Member of Parliament for Sea Breeze Leslia Miller Brice to uplift families, will take place this evening at the Charles

Carter Park beginning 6.30pm.

The event is dedicated to all those families experiencing hard times and to uplifting the nation in heartfelt prayer. Mrs Miller Brice is encouraging those in the community to gather with “empathy, extending grace to one another, and fostering an atmosphere of support and hope.”

Various religious leaders have joined forces for the event to pray and bring a word of hope.

“Thank you to all of the religious leaders in the Sea Breeze community who have joined their voices in support of the ‘Call to Prayer’. Your presence will serve as a pillar of strength in times of crisis, providing solace, guidance and hope,” said Mrs Miller Brice.

Religious leaders participating in the event include

Dr Cleon Munroe of Miracle Life Global Outreach Ministries, Pastor Ivan Carey of Victory Baptist Church, Rev Rolston J Smith of the Angelic Baptist Church, Pastor William Jay Simms of Christian Life Church, Bishop Victor Johnson of New Dimension Ministries), Pastor Valentino Campbell of Redemption Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Cassell Higgs of Church of God of Prophecy, and Apostle Valentino Stubbs of the Embassy of Revival Church.

“Some amongst us carry silent burdens, others wrestle with fear, and some bravely hold it all together. Let us embrace a moment in solidarity, as we invite you to our ‘Call to Prayer’.

“Let us take a moment to reflect on our blessings and offer prayers for

healing, guidance, peace and strength for our community and our country. May our collective prayers bring solace and hope to those in need,” said Mrs Miller Brice.

“The ‘Call To Prayer’ will serve as an opportunity for individuals to come together, connect spiritually, share burdens, and seek guidance and blessings from a higher power.

“As citizens, we have a duty to do all that we can to combat crime; we have chosen.”

Last month, the Bahamas Christian Council (BCC) called a National Day of Prayer at Rawson and Parliament Squares.

It came on the heels of the country reaching a record-breaking number of murders in the first 14 days of the new year.

MEN OF ST PAUL’S BAPTIST CHURCH JOIN FIGHT AGAINST CRIME WAVE WITH A RALLY THIS FRIDAY

UNDER the theme

“Addressing CrimeAdvancing Prevention and Intervention”, members of St Paul’s Baptist Church Inc will host an anti-crime rally at the Fox Hill basketball park this Friday.

Beginning at 6pm, the event will host various speakers and panel guests, including Elder David Williams of Hurting Men’s Ministry; Rev Anthony Sands, president of the Prison Fellowship Bahamas; Rev Tyrone Brooks, Baptist Men President; Dr Shyann Williams, Director of Juvenile Unit BDOCS; Evangelist Ethlyn Rolle;

Khandi Gibson; Brother Elvis Collett, and three former prison inmates. Church members said in light of the many murders which have been committed in recent weeks, the men of St Paul’s decided they wanted to make a positive contribution to fight against crime with this event.

“Senior Pastor Rev George Bodie states that as a church, we must do our part continuously. Step by step, we must be focused on the reason as to why our help is needed and give of ourselves unselfishly,” the members said in a press statement.

“As we move forward in bringing our country back to controlled civilisation,

we wish for all persons to join forces with us as we fight the horrific crime wave in the country. With the theme ‘Addressing Crime - Advancing Prevention and Intervention’ we want to establish effective ways in which our citizens with criminal intent would see and wish to experience better for themselves, reaching their full potential and living a free and productive life.”

The church members said they strive to do all that they can, unselfishly helping to meet the needs of those living in poverty and merely existing with no hope.

“Our lives will not get any better and our children will continue to hurt from the loss of a parent, family or friend because everyone chooses to turn a blind eye. Crime is affecting everyone whether you think so or not. On Friday we want everyone to come and be a part of this continuous movement. We seek for some solutions with the murders,” they said.

“We believe that the more we work at it, we will get ahead. We will follow the Christian council president who said the religious body will come together in a conclave to address crime and look at the solution.”

At the rally this Friday, there will be food and drinks. It is set to be a family affair for all those in need of encouragement.

SEA BREEZE MP LESLIA MILLER BRICE

'THE UNVEILING' OF A NEW TYPE OF MINISTRY FOR NEW NEEDS

In an interview with Tribune Religion, Sandena Neely, the ministry’s public relations lead representative, said “a love revolution” stands as the inspiration behind the launch of the new church ministry.

“Pastor Moncur will candidly tell anyone that he grew weary of what the church in general has become. He has outright admitted that he feels the church has allowed itself

to get caught up in religion and has grown out of touch and out of tune with what is needed in this country,” she said. This new shift in church ministry, she said, aims to help to reshape how the church is viewed, the experience that the church offers and its impact within the community.

“(Pastor Moncur) is moving with a simple message of love where all are accepted, every age feels at home within a family style atmosphere, where prayer, praise, worship and fasting serves as a foundation of service to God and the Kingdom,” said Ms Neely. She explained that this will be very different kind of church ministry, as services will be held outside of the normal church edifice, with believers flocking to Fusion Superplex on Sundays at 8am for an encounter with God.

A part of the ministry’s theme and message, she said, is that members are

loved by God, in love with God, and loving each other. Pastor Moncur developed a relationship with God at a very early age. He recalls accepting the Lord at age nine and having his first real experience with the hand of God touching his life just one week after embarking on his spiritual journey. The encounter came during a prayer meeting that he attended with his mother. A young Pastor Moncur, Ms Neely said, was fostered in his faith walk by his mother and grandmother.

“He recalls many times his grandmother would allow him to preach sermons to her based on the first scripture passage he had fallen in love with as a child, which was Daniel 3,” she said.

“His spiritual walk matured from preaching and praying within his family circle to being nurtured under the wings of Pastor Helen McPhee in Agape Church off Wulff

A HISTORIC ORDINATION FOR THE BAHAMAS' GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH

THE Greek Orthodox Church in the Bahamas is celebrating the ordination of the first Bahamian clergy member in the history of the church. Attorney Alexander Maillis was officially ordained into the Diaconate in a ceremony on Sunday, February 25, 2024 in the church sanctuary on West Street, Nassau.

Archbishop Elpidophoros of America travelled from New York to the Bahamas with a delegation to lead the Holy Sacrament of Ordination service. Deacon Alexander and his wife, who now bears the title Diakonissa Panayiota (Patricia), welcomed family, friends, fellow parishioners and the public to the church service and banquet with open arms and an outward profession to welcome new people to worship.

A memento of the event from Mr Maillis' was inscribed with a scripture

taken from Galatians 3:29: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus." The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1937, and from then until the present time, there has never been a Bahamian ordained to the official clergy, until now. Mr Maillis was baptised in the church as a baby and has grown up in the church, in which he will now serve as deacon. Father Irenaeus Cox, parish priest, also assisted in leading the service, along with local and visiting clergy including: Rev Protopresbyter Father Elias Villis, Chancellor of the Archdiocesan District; Rev Fr Demetrios Kazakis; Rev Archdeacon Dionysios Papiris; Rev Dn Salvatore Fazio, and Rev Dn Tikhon Cobb and others.

Road. Many in that community will tell you that his days there were spent setting that congregation, especially the youth ministry, on fire for Christ,” said Ms Neely.

In 2007, Pastor Moncur eventually launched his own ministry, Word of Life Kingdom Ministries, which was located just off the Tonique Williams Darling Highway, with a second location later added in Oakes Field. He was ordained to ministry in the church by Bishop Neil C Ellis.

During his time in service to the Lord, Pastor Moncur also embarked on a journey of studying theology, which further helped to strengthen his faith-based walk.

“Pastor Moncur’s ministry grew tremendously over the years and he was eventually welcomed into the Mount Tabor Church (MTC) family and in 2023 he was ordained as senior pastor as its founding

father, Bishop Neil C Ellis, retired from the leadership of that church. A sudden move and word from God prompted Pastor Moncur to resign from his post as senior pastor of MTC one year after stepping into the role.

Pastor Moncur has coined the move as the birth of what he feels is a revolution in the church and is excited, alongside his leadership team, to launch his new church ministry on

March 3, 2024,” said Ms Neely.

For the “Unveiling” event this coming Sunday, Ms Neely said members are most looking forward to sharing this historic moment with the entire church family.

“‘The Unveiling’ will be dynamic, moving, spiritled, and it will usher in a new spark that will light a fire that draws the lost and unsaved to the cross of Jesus Christ,” said Ms Neely.

This is Archbishop Eplidophoros' second time visiting the Bahamas. He and a delegation travelled to the country in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, bringing supplies and offering humanitarian aid to assist the local church in its efforts to bring relief to those most affected.

The Greek Orthodox Church in Nassau is home to a number of cultures, including members of the Indian Orthodox faith, as well as Egyptian, Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Ethiopian, Cuban and other members. During Sunday mass, the Lord's Prayer can be heard sung in nine different languages to ensure that all cultures represented have the opportunity to worship in a way most meaningful to them. Services are held at the West Street sanctuary at 8.30am and 10am each Sunday.
