Caye Caulker, Belize: laid-back paradise
Caye Caulker doesn’t have the idyllic beaches popular neighbour San Pedro has, but an incredible laid-back charm. The island has become my absolute favorite place in Belize. You will probably not find a car anywhere and the favorite transportation on this small island is a bike or golf cart. Reggae music is the smooth soundtrack of your stay. Caye Caulker is also the island of Raggamuffin Tours. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen some of the drone shots I took during a 3 day sailing adventure with them. It is impossible NOT to relax here! Where should you sleep & eat? Who will you bring to swim with some cute sharks? These are my tips and highlights! Go slow & enjoy..

Hotel Caye Caulker
Sea Dreams Hotel! This stunning spot has a giant Banyan tree in the courtyard and an excellent location close to the Split & the fun Lazy Lizard. They serve 2 for 1 delicious cocktails from 5 or 6 pm at the bar at Sea Dreams and it is a great place to meet other travellers. I loved the Coconut Martini!! The rooms are not very big, but well equipped. The use of bikes and paddle boards is complimentary. Owner Haywood likes to teach you how to fly fish! Another great reason why you should stay here, is that they give back to the local community. The goal is to start the first high school in Caye Caulker and to empower the young students with job skills in the fly fishing industry.

I was such a lucky bastard; I arrived in lobster heaven in Belize, because of the season! The price range in Caye Caulker is low and I had lobster every day for 12 US dollars. Try the lobster ceviche too!

Dee N D’s: delicious, fresh lobster and fish. Cuba Libres for $3 US. Not a fancy restaurant but a local heaven.
Ice & Beans: the best iced coffee on the island. Vegan options are available too. The coffee comes with a freshly baked mini donut! Yumm! The WIFI is perfect too.
The Little Kitchen: a true hidden gem. Delicious lobster and local food. I would not recommend walking here alone at night. I felt very safe in Caye Caulker, but this restaurant is quite remote and difficult to find!
Alladin’s: incredible mezzes and vegetarian dishes. The owner is from Jordan and she makes the most delicious hummus ever! I loved this place for the good fruit shakes too.
The Sportsbar: great place for drinks at night. There are karaoke nights and there is seating outside in the back too. Dance the night away on your flip flops!

Tours Caye Caulker
Raggamuffin Tours: book a sailing trip to Shark Ray Alley/ Hol Chan Marine Reserve and swim with sea turtles and sharks!! Raggamuffin Tours is the only company that offers a sailing trip to this beautiful area. All the other companies have speedboats. I don’t think I have ever had a snorkeling experience quite like this… wow!
