10 Most Popular Super Mario Characters & Coloring Ideas

Keep reading to learn about 10 of the most popular characters in the Mario Universe, how they fit into the franchise, and ways to make my Mario coloring sheets vibrant and colorful!

1. Mario

Let’s start with the most obvious character – Mario himself! Mario is the protagonist of his franchise. He is a plumber who resides in the Mushroom Kingdom with his brother Luigi.

Mario appears in nearly every game and property of the Super Mario series. He has many powers and abilities, including superhuman jumping, speed, and pyrokinesis.

Mario’s character wears a red hat and shirt, blue overalls, white gloves, and has brown hair and a mustache.

Make sure to include these colors when selecting your color palette for this sheet, and I also recommend drawing in one of the platforms this character plays on, such as the green pipes.

2. Luigi

Luigi, Mario’s brother, is one of the original main characters of the Super Mario franchise. He is secondary in most Super Mario games, but is the lead of the Luigi’s Mansion series.

Luigi is generally portrayed as more cowardly and timid than his brother, but like Mario, he has many superpowers, including super strength, durability, stamina, and speed.

Unlike Mario, Luigi wears a green hat and shirt instead of red. So, when filling in his coloring sheet, make sure to select a very vibrant green shade.

I also recommend drawing in the background of Luigi’s Mansion for extra color and uniqueness.

3. Yoshi

Yoshi is Mario’s sidekick in the Super Mario franchise, and was first introduced in Super Mario World (1990). He’s a dinosaur from Dinosaur Island, first appearing trapped in an egg.

Many fans of the Mario universe claim Yoshi as their favorite character because he’s cute, loveable, and quite heroic at times.

He also has many powers, including the Flutter Jump, Shell Fusion, and Super Eating!

Yoshi is green with a red and white shell and orange shoes. So, make sure to include these shades when selecting your color palette for this sheet.

4. Waluigi

Waluigi is the main nemesis for Luigi, being first introduced to the Super Mario universe in Mario Tennis (2000).

He has many abilities, such as summoning cyclones and thorny vines, and is also skilled in a variety of sports.

Waluigi is a very colorful character, sporting a purple hat and shirt, a pink nose, gray overalls, and orange shoes.

In addition to using these colors, I also recommend drawing in his thorny vines for a touch of green!

5. Rosalina

Rosalina is one of the most popular female characters in the Super Mario franchise.

She was first introduced to the series in 2007 and appears in games such as Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario 3D.

Gamers love Rosalina for her femininity and relationship with the Lumas, the star children who she adopted.

Rosalina is depicted in a beautiful blue-green dress, has light blonde hair, and wears a silver crown, so make sure to have these colors on hand when filling in this sheet.

I also recommend drawing in the Lumas to include some gorgeous yellow shades.

6. Toad

Toad is a sentient mushroom from the Mushroom Kingdom, and is a servant of Princess Peach. His mission is to protect Princess Peach, though he usually fails in the attempt.

Gamers love Toad for his loyalty, kindness, and his humor. He also has many useful abilities for players, such as the ground pound, spin jump, and the wall kick!

Toad is depicted with a red and white mushroom cap head, beige body, white pants, a blue and yellow vest, and brown shoes, so make sure to include these colors while filling in this sheet.

For extra vibrancy, I also recommend drawing the Mushroom Kingdom in the background!

7. Bowser

Bowser is the main villain of the Super Mario franchise, as he kidnaps Princess Peach frequently and is Mario’s archenemy.

Fans love Bowser, claiming him to be misunderstood in his motives for capturing Peach, and often point to his love for his son as a redeeming character element.

Bowser has many powers, including teleporting, creating shockwaves, and breathing fire.

This character is very colorful, having a bright yellow body, a green shell, red hair, and a green mask over his eyes, so make sure to include these colors when filling in this sheet.

I also recommend drawing in the fire that he breathes to add more red to the picture.

8. Princess Peach

Princess Peach is the female lead of the Super Mario franchise, and ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. She is most well-known for being rescued by Mario from Bowser’s Castle.

Many Mario fans adore her kindness, femininity, and fantastic ability as a cook.

Peach also has useful abilities, such as transformation, undoing spells, and hovering and attacking her enemies.

Princess Peach is portrayed in a light pink dress, dark blonde hair, white gloves, blue earrings, and a gold crown with red and blue gems.

9. King Boo

King Boo rules the Paranormal Dimension and is the feature villain in the Luigi’s Mansion series.

This character is popular with gamers as he regularly defeats Mario, making him one of the more powerful villains in the franchise.

Boo has many abilities, including invisibility, the Boo Call, creating portals, and creating shock waves.

King Boo has a simple color palette, having a white body with a gold crown.

Therefore, to add more color to this sheet, I recommend drawing elements from Luigi’s Mansion in the background!

10. Shy Guy

Shy Guy is the cutest-looking villain in the Super Mario series, being an antagonist but wearing a mask due to his shyness.

Fans of Mario love Shy Guy for his timid and innocent appearance, despite the fact that he’s intended to be one of Mario’s nemeses.

Further, Shy Guy has a handful of abilities, such as flailing, running headbutt, and playing power-up music.

Shy Guy is portrayed in a red hooded sweater, black and gold belt, blue shoes, and a white mask, so make sure to include these shades when filling in this coloring sheet.

For extra color, try drawing in your favorite background from the Mario universe.
