About The Apsara Dance Teacher

Apsara Dance Class

Ms. Som Saory will oversee the Apsara Dance class at Navutu Dreams. She hails from Kampong Chhnang, near Cambodia’s Capital, Phnom Penh and has been teaching this Cambodian art form for over 10 years now. In fact, Ms. Saory  has already performed overseas such as in France and Japan and holds a higher training of Apsara dancing as she was trained by Cambodia’s most famous Apsara Dance Guru, Ms. Kim Boran.

To have an insight of the world of Apsara dancing, we had the chance to meet and interview a  passionate and experienced Apsara dancer and teacher in Cambodia, Ms. Som Saory.

Q: When did you start to dance Apsara?

A: I started to become interested in Apsara Dance when I was eight. I was only seeing the performances at the restaurants back then. I told myself that I would study and practice hard to become a professional Apsara dancer and teacher.

Q: How long have you been teaching this traditional Cambodian dance?

A: I have been teaching Apsara dance for over ten years now. I started teaching Cambodian kids at schools and eventually, teaching tourists who come to visit Siem Reap.

Q: Why do you  like to perform and teach Apsara?

A: I really love to dance and teach Apsara. It has always been my passion and I enjoy teaching a lot. This is also my way to share my culture (especially to tourists) and I also hope that the Khmer art and culture will be alive forever.

Q: How do you feel about teaching at Navutu Dreams?

A: Firstly, I feel honored as I will get to share and introduce Khmer culture with the guests and this is something which I’m really happy about. Secondly, I would like to thank Navutu Dreams for giving me this opportunity to teach at their resort and craft my talent.

The Apsara Dance class is an hour full of learning and fun where you will learn both traditional and contemporary dances. The class is priced at US$30 ++ per person and each class requires 24 hour prior notice for reservations. Limited slots available. For more info, please email reservations@navutudreams.com or call 063 964 864 / 092 141 694.
