Rashi Gupta- I’m blessed to have been part of a larger movement towards reversing the stigmas of arranged marriage

“In the 28 years of my life, I had not yet organically met someone with whom I could see spending the rest of my life with. One fine day, my mom forwarded me an email that she received from Netflix about 1.5 years ago that asked if I was of South Asian descent and single. It then went on to describe this matchmaking project that would match me with people across the globe.

I was excited about the potential of meeting someone who was equally as interested in finding a life partner. However, having this personal part of my life televised was unnerving but exciting at the same time. First date jitters were accompanied by several large cameras over each of our shoulders documenting every word that comes out of our mouth.

Even though it was an extraordinary experience, I cannot help but wonder if the situation would have been different if I had met Sima Aunty in person. I only had a conversation with her once or twice before I was matched. There were a lot of other qualities that I was looking for in my future partner that I couldn’t tell her. But I am blessed to have been part of a larger movement towards reversing the stigmas of arranged marriage.” said Rashi Gupta
