With news that the current season of “24” will be the show’s last, many fans have wondered what this means for Jack Bauer. In the past, Kiefer Sutherland has said that he thinks it’s important that Jack dies when fans least expect it.

Well, given the fact that there are only 10 more episodes remaining that doesn’t seem to be a viable option — fans will be on red alert for possible Jack offings. But that doesn’t change the question: Should Jack Bauer die at the end of season eight?

In the pro column, it does seem that sleeping with the fishes is the only possible way that Jack could truly be at peace. His history of getting pulled back into the fray, even when it’s the last thing he wants to do, has kick started several seasons. Plus, with daughter Kim around, he’ll just spend each day peeking around every corner looking for cougar traps.

On the con side, if it’s true that producers are planning a big screen “24” movie, then killing their star might not be the best idea. Sure, they can always go back in time and tell a story we’ve yet to see that links two seasons, but would fans be equally invested in spending two hours learning about the past of a now-dead character?

Personally, I think a movie should be avoided — we already had “24: Redemption” — and they should just let Jack go quietly into that good night. Oh, and Chloe should be the one who kills him.

How do you think Jack’s final day should end?
