From a ventral perspective, this illustration highlights the structural details exhibited by the female red mite, Dermanyssus gallinae, which belongs to the family Dermanyssidae. As an ectoparasite, D. gallinae, is commonly found on poultry, pigeons, sparrows, and other birds. It is sometime referred to as the chicken mite.
