Raisio has a long history

The oldest known document about Raisio dates from 1292. It is Kaarle Kustaanpoika's will, in which Raisio Elaus is assigned 10 marks of money. Raisio became a borough in 1966 and a city in 1974.

Raisio was an agricultural area for a long time. The prosperity of Raisio's peasants was widely known, as more than 30 mills in the region milled prosperity in abundance. Agriculture is also behind the success of the city's most significant industrial facility: Raisio Group started as a mill company.

New archaeological discoveries are also shaping the image of Raisio. For example, in the excavations of Ihalan Mulli, remains of several iron age and early medieval buildings have been found. The objects excavated from the field tell about the long use of the place.
