The Hobbit star Evangeline Lilly has promised "we're in really good hands" with new Ant-Man director Peyton Reed.

The Ant-Man drama started earlier this year when Edgar Wright -- who developed and championed the project for years -- parted ways with Marvel, reportedly due to creative differences regarding the screenplay. Though Reed -- best known for Jim Carrey's Yes Man and cheerleader comedy Bring It On -- was swiftly brought in to fill the void, there's still been some concern that Wright would have been irreplaceable. According to Lilly, we can breathe easy.

“He was a delight. He actually in some ways reminded me a bit of Peter [Jackson]," she told IGN when promoting the final installment in The Hobbit trilogy. "He had a fantastic sense of humour, was extremely immersed in the comic world all his life, is a big fan-boy but also extremely strong in his vision.

"He knew what he needed, and he knew if we had it or if we didn’t have it, and it’s such a huge luxury as an actor to know that your director really knows what he wants. He knows when he’s got it and he knows when to move on. I feel like we’re in really good hands."

Before now, Lilly had admitted she thought about jumping ship from the project after Wright left, but was convinced to stay once she realised the original script wouldn't have worked with the rest of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. That she's now feeling so positive about the direction of the film must be a good sign, then.

Marvel's Ant-Man hits theatres July 17, 2015.
