NOK 205bn, or around USD 19n.

This is the size of the personal fortune of Norway’s richest man, John Fredriksen, who is now technically a Cypriot citizen.

According to Norwegian business media Finansavisen, the shipping magnate has increased his wealth by NOK 81bn since the same time last year.

This also means that Fredriksen has earned NOK 222m per day from his business across shipping, oil and gas, and fish farming.

Fredriksen controls shipping companies Frontline, Golden Ocean, Flex LNG, holding company Hemen Holding, and shipowner SFL Corporation.

Way down in second place is Niels G. Stolt-Nielsen. Stolt-Nielsen, chairman and now-former CEO of family-controlled shipping group Stolt Nielsen, which owns the chemical tanker company Stolt Tankers, among others. He has a fortune of NOK 9.75bn.

This is followed by Leif O. Høegh, whom among other things is behind the car carrier Höegh Autoliners, with NOK 9.30bn. There are two other members of the Höegh family in the top ten.

During the same period, however, the Norwegian wealth tax has caused even more of the country’s billionaires to seek tax havens outside Norway.

As many as 34 families on the list have completely or partially left the country, Finansavisen writes, adding that these families correspond to 42% of the total wealth on the list.

In total, the families have moved NOK 780bn out of the country.
