2  Alahärmä, Ylihärmä, Kauhava and Kortesjärvi merged into one single municipality on January 1 st 2009.  The second largest municipality in Southern Ostrobothnia in regards to population (17 300), third regards to area (1313 km 2).  Part of the sub-region of Seinäjoki and the K8 group of city sub-regions.  Together with Evijärvi and Lappajärvi, Kauhava has founded a cooperation area for social and health care services called Kuntayhtymä Kaksineuvoinen, including approximately 24 000 residents.  In the beginning of 2013 the cooperation of Kauhava, Evijärvi and Lappajärvi will broad also into the agriculture services Kauhava is the commercial and administrative center of the northern region of Southern Ostrobothnia

3  Located at the center of the three provincial centers in Ostrobothnia, alongside highway 19, road 63, the Ostrobothnia railroad, and the waterways of Lapuanjoki and Kortesjärvi.  Military airport and active civilian aviation.  Kauhava is situated beside the main railway line of Finland Central location and good connections

6 Kehityskeskus  Kehityskeskus (development center) is an expert organization combining business, agriculture and farm relief services with the general development of the municipality, creating a functional entity. This entity is strategically important to developing the future of the new municipality.  Located in the same building as Suomen Yrittäjäopisto (Institute for Enterprise Management).

7 Business sector  In December 31, 2006, there were 7508 employees and 8003 jobs in Kauhava (self-sufficiency in jobs 107 %).  13 % of the jobs were in initial production, 27 % in processing and 50 % in services.  Major center of commerce and metal industry  The tourism and healt care sectors are increasing rapidly  Nationally significant area of milk and potato production  Strong fur farming (mainly fox, approx. 100 farms)

10 Each year, approximately 30 million euro of support is directed via the city at different farms. The support consists of 30 different types of support. 11 Farm relief services  Total number of employees approximately 100, plus 40-60 temporary employees per month.  In 2009, farms in need of relief totaled 323 and the entrepreneurs totaled 512.  24 000 days when farm relief is needed.  Farm relief for fur farmers begins in 2010. The city of Kauhava arranges farm relief services also to the agricultural entrepreneurs and fur farmers of Evijärvi and Lappajärvi.
