in #animals6 years ago

Koi Swordtails have taken their name from their resemblance to the popular selectively bred carp specifically the Kohaku, Sanke and Show Koi and appear to exhibit the popular deep contrasting reddish-orange, red and marks wrap around a milky white, semi-transparent body making it more attractive to the hobbyist.

The male Koi Swordtail has characterized with the flowing, feathered fins with a separate extension on the lower portion of the tail, similar to a sword while the female does not have the distinctive, sword-like tail but her Koi pigmentation still makes her an exquisite variety to feast your eyes on. Like other Swordtails, these kinds are notorious to be jumpers so it is vital to support an adequate cover over your tank. With the average lifespan of 2 to 4 years, they tend to have a shorter duration of existence than other tropical community fish.

As Koi Swordtails can tolerate a wide range of water conditions, they are an easy species to keep within the home aquarium environment and will also co-exist peacefully in pairs or groups with most of the tropical freshwater fish species.

Koi Swordtails are recommended to be nourished with equally meaty and vegetable-based foods in order to sustenance a healthy immune system and slime coat as they enthusiastically feed on a wide selection of foods ranging from plant matter and algae to meaty foods and small insects.

As Koi Swordtails can give birth to as many as 100 fry during a single spawn and will spawn roughly every 30 to 40 days, they are known to be prolific breeders that are easy to breed within the aquarium environment.
