Orvokki

I am Orvokki Somervuori, a 25-year-old eventing rider and riding instructor. I compete internationally with my horse Romeo. I lived in Germany from 2021-2023, where I worked for Olympic rider Fouaad Mirza, who also coached me. From October 2022, my family also includes my dog , Kiara. I work as an entrepreneur. I give riding lessons and ride young horses.

When in autumn 2019, my pony Jogi was transferred to the use of my little sister Kielo, Romeo was found for me as a new horse through Minna Leppälä-Pirtilä. In the summer of 2020, we started by competing in the 100 cm national field riding classes, and with obstacles, we moved up to the 120 cm classes.

In 2021, we moved up to 2* classes in eventing, and we were able to participate in our first international competitions in Poland and Holland. After moving to Germany, I have competed in international competitions, and we have moved up to 3* classes. In autumn 2022, I participated with Romeo in the Nordic Baltic Championships organized in Norway, where our team won silver.

I started riding at 13 as a student at Ratsutila Wikner's riding school. When I got to participate in the stable's competitions with the horses of the riding school, I knew that competing was my thing. From the beginning, my favourite horses were ponies and horses that were fast and excited about obstacles. I joined the riding school's Talent training program with the riding school pony (2013-2014), and the following year I participated in Talent with my rented pony Jogi. Jogi came to us for maintenance in the spring of 2015, and a year later, we bought the pony. I started competing with Jogi from the beginning, i.e. from the 50-60 cm level. With hard training, we raised the level to the 100cm showjumping and HeA dressage. When Jogi and I got excited about eventing, there was no going back. In eventing, we always competed in 90 cm competitions.

After high school, I went to study at Ypäjä Horse School and graduated as a riding instructor in 2019. I initially worked at Minna Leppälä-Pirtilä's training stable and later founded my own company, through which I offered, among other things, riding and gave riding school lessons.
