Hi! I’m Marisol D’Yari Velasco

Welcome to The Bohio Trading Post.  What is a Bohio? Who am I? and What are the Tainos?

A Bohio is a hut made of tree and palms these houses would have been used as community and family dwellings for the Natives of the Caribbeans.

I am Marisol and I am a descendant of the Taino Indians of Puerto Rico. The Tainos are the indigenous people of the island of Puerto Rico also known as Borinquen.  These were the people that Christopher Columbus first encounters while lost at sea during his voyage.  Calling them Indians when he mistakenly thought he had made it to India.

Columbus’ voyage brought with it murder, and disease which lead to the Taino people becoming almost extinct, but we are still here and holding strong.

The Bohio Trading Post is your place for Taino and Native American Information and as a trading post, we will also be adding other information on events, place, and people throughout our area and beyond.  Upcoming events and powwows, beautiful photos and more. We are here to tell our history, share our stories and the lives of others like us. We welcome insights, thoughts, and ideas.

This isn’t a place for fighting or correcting anyone stories, styles or beliefs. We have a rich heritage full of color and tradition that we need to pass on to our children
