Statue of Liberty reopens; visitors can once again admire Lady Liberty

The famous Statue of Liberty is reopened and visitors can now once again admire the gorgeous lady. Along with it, the Statue of Liberty Museum and the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration have also opened their doors today morning to the visitors. After being shut for more than three months because of the Coronavirus outbreak, New York City is gradually reopening its cultural institutions.

Like many other popular sites in the world that have reopened, these institutions will also operate on reduced capacity, while following necessary health and safety protocols. Social distancing and face masks are musts and tickets must be bought online.

The Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island is probably one of the most celebrated places to visit in the whole of the city and was a gift from France. Initially in 1886, the statue was placed on its pedestal in New York’s harbor. Since then, the statue has been a huge tourist magnet and annually draws nearly 3.5 million visitors.
Besides the Statue of Liberty, New York City is all set to reopen other cultural institutes as well, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art which will open its gates to tourists on August 29, and the American Museum of Natural History on September 9.
Other than that, the 9/11 Memorial Museum will also reopen on its anniversary, the day when the terrorist attacks took place years ago.

Alice Greenwald, the 9/11 museum's president and CEO, in a statement said, "We are extremely pleased to announce the reopening of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, a physical testament to the triumph of hope and our potential for resilience in the face of adversity and unfathomable loss."

According to the officials, the museum will first open to the relatives and dear ones of those who lost their lives in the attack and then to the public.
