Where the voice for Brain from Pinky and the Brain came from

Pinky and the Brain

Children’s TV addicts can probably already hear Brain’s voice in their heads, and there’s a reason: voice actor Maurice LaMarche picked an iconic model.

According to LaMarche, Brain’s voice is one-third Vincent Price and two-thirds Orson Welles. LaMarche memorized a memorable tirade that Welles once delivered, and when he auditioned to be the Brain, he decided to pull out his impression. He won the part instantly.

LaMarche said the most interesting part of being involved in the show was the letters. “We got very intelligent fan mail,” he said. “I got one from a marine biologist who wanted to offer his expertise in a plan for taking over the world.”
