The spirit of Castle will loom large on ABC next season.
On the heels of news that Nathan Fillion will return to his old Alphabet Network stomping ground as the star of the cop dramedy The Rookie, ABC has announced that it has placed a straight-to-series for a new procedural from Castle creators Terri Edda Miller and Andrew W. Marlowe. Titled Take Two, the dramedy — which Miller and Marlowe have been developing for nearly two years — stars The O.C.‘s Rachel Bilson and CSI: Miami’s Eddie Cibrian as unlikely P.I. partners.
Here’s the official, Grinder-esque logline:
Ella (Bilson), the former star of a hit cop series, is fresh out of-rehab following a bender of epic proportion. Desperate to restart her career, she talks her way into shadowing rough-and-tumble private investigator Eddie (Cibrian) as research for a potential comeback role. Though lone wolf Eddie resents the babysitting gig, high-spirited Ella proves herself to be surprisingly valuable, drawing on her acting skills and 200 episodes of playing a detective. When the press touts Ella’s role in solving a high-profile case, Eddie finds his phone ringing off the hook with new clients looking to hire the pair.
“Andrew and Terri are wonderful storytellers and this is the perfect project for their return to ABC,” said Channing Dungey, President, ABC Entertainment. “We’re excited to see Rachel and Eddie bring these characters to life.”
Bilson most recently recurred on CMT’s Nashville as a love interest for Charles Esten’s grieving widower Deacon. TVLine has confirmed that she will not be a part of the country drama’s upcoming sixth season.
So Castle but different-ish?! Meh!
So literally just Castle with a TV star then…
Castle if he was the cop and Beckett the famous celebrity.
So these people only ever had one idea for a TV show? And now they just constantly tweak it?
LOLOL BINGO!!
Reverse Castle? I don’t think so, especially with that male lead.
Yup. I hate Cibrian. He’s bad in everything he’s ever been in. Unlikeable as a person, and not a good actor.
“Andrew and Terri are wonderful storytellers…”
Only until they put the will-they/won’t-they couple together. Then they stop writing for character development and start getting focused on plots that break them up.
Hard pass.
They weren’t the ones who broke them up. Marlowe and Miller had left the show by then to work on their development company.
Get another male actor, nobody wants to see him,he’s terrible in anything he does!!!
Agree.
Totally agree
Totally agree. Of all the talented actors Rachel Bilson would have chemistry with – which is probably almost everyone – they go with Eddie Cibrian?? Just looking at their pictures side by side above you can already tell they have no chemistry.
Completely agree. That was my first thought, Eddie Cibrian? Really? Why?
I would not watch Eddie Cibrian in anything. I find him to be a self-satisfied, no-talent person who calls himself an actor but really isn’t. This will be an epic fail!
This!^^^^^
ITA. Get Andrew Walker, Victor Webster, Cameron Mathison, geez even John Cusack would be a step in the right direction. EC doesn’t show me a thing. RB deserves better.
You love watching Halmark movies, don’t you? :D
I love Victor, he looks great on screen and has some good energy, don’t know Eddie’s hight but Victor is very tall guy and Rachel is tiny. I don’t think that would look good on tv.
Cameron is busy being ET’s person. But Andrew is interesting suggestion. I can see them on the screen.
Sometimes Hallmark has the only wholesome offering. Maybe I just gravitate toward Canadian leading men [Webster, Mathison, Fillion etc.]. That being said, I’d be fine with Sean Faris, Ioan Gruffudd or even Dylan Lane. Can’t deal with Eddie Cibrian.
Cameron Mathewson…. possibly but what would happen to Murder She Baked?
This sounds basically the same but reversed Castle and I’ll probably end up watching and shipping it even though it’s just same old same old. I just binged The O.C. so I’m kinda excited about seeing Rachel Bilson in something else.
This sounds good..
Eddie Cibrian was great in Rosewood last season!
I believe that that the Eddie Cibrian hate group posting here is more responding to his personal life rather than his acting abilities…
This is literally just Castle, but if he were a TV star instead of an author and Beckett were a PI; and then gender swapped.
Exactly the same, except … different. LOL
As others have said, Castle with different actors. And two I’ve never heard of (although I watched CSI: Miami so I saw Cibrian but he obviously left no impression at all). While I may change my mind and try it, if I had to choose today, it would be a No.
I’ll probably check out the pilot if the trailer looks good, since I did enjoy Castle. But the premise doesn’t make sense. A well-known actress is now outed as working with a PI – how are they supposed to investigate anything when people will see them coming from a mile away? Sure, she can do research in the office, but that doesn’t make good TV. A staple of PI shows is the characters going undercover or at least spinning a story to get information – an avenue this show’s premise has cut off, unless they portray their story world’s public as exceedingly forgetful or stupid.
What an original idea!
Then again, Star Wars The Farce Awakens made a billion dollars recycling the original Star Wars movie. Most people really don’t want new ideas…
Not sure whether the concept for this show or for Deception sounds more like Castle…..ABC really wants to relive Castle’s old,old glory days.
I love Rachel, but I definitely do not like Eddie Cibrian. I’m on the fence.
Sounds interesting. I like Eddie. I’ll check it out. Liked Cibrian in CSI Miami and Rosewood. Don’t know much about Bilson time will tell. Let’s give it a chance
Liked his character on Rosewood. Will give this one a shot.
It’s a rare double to see an actor’s leaving one series coupled with their new series in the same block of news
It took them two years to “develop” this?
It took them two years to come up with this?? 😂
:-)
The first year they came up with gender-swap. The second year was more challenging: they had to come up with actress doing research instead of author doing research and private detective in the place of police detective.
Nothing will ever be as good as Castle !!
I love Rachel Bilson so I’m super excited ! I miss Hart of Dixie
Hmm, I’m not really a fan of Rachel Bilson and I have no clue who Eddie Cibrian is iether. I did enjoy Castle seasons 1-6, 7 was meh and the last doesn’t count for me. I did enjoy a lot of the episodes from these writers. I’ll probably give the pilot episode a chance at least.
