The Colosseum, Rome

Colosseum Bag policy

Large bags such as backpacks and suitcases are strictly prohibited from the Colosseum. Security is taken very seriously, but given the crowds, you wouldn’t want to take them in any way. Small items are allowed; however, take note that everything will be submitted to security screening. You will also need to pass through a metal detector to ensure you have no dangerous items on you.

If you have a heavy daypack or have come straight from the airport, do not despair. Bounce luggage lockers near the Colosseum will take care of your things while you enjoy this historic venue.

Colosseum Food policy

The Colosseum is a World Heritage site so it does not have dining options within its walls. You are able to bring in water and food, although it will need to pass through security. While it is possible to consume your snacks during your visit, there are limited places to stop and dine. There are, however, a number of fountains where you can fill your water bottles - a necessity on a hot, Italian day!

There are many places to eat near the Colosseum so consider grabbing a snack or meal before your visit.

Colosseum Camera policy

Cameras are permitted within the Colosseum and you’ll want to get a snap of this iconic attraction! While it is possible to get photos inside the amphitheater, photos from the outside with the Colosseum as the backdrop will give you a more classic tourist shot. As with most attractions, all photography should only be used for personal purposes. If you wish to undertake some commercial photography, seek out the appropriate permissions before you visit.

If you intend to explore Rome after your visit or have heavy camera gear that you do not want to carry inside the amphitheater, make the most of Bounce luggage storage near the Colosseum. You’ll know that your items are safe while being free to explore without the extra weight.

Colosseum rules
