“Rescue Me” alum Dean Winters has signed to co-star in the detective drama “Battle Creek,” from David Shore and Vince Gilligan.

Sony Pictures TV drama revolves around two detectives determined to clean up the mean streets of Battle Creek, Mich., despite a lack of resources. CBS gave the project a production order in September as Gilligan was red-hot coming off the success of “Breaking Bad’s” final season. Winters’ detective co-star has yet to be cast.

“Battle Creek” is an script Gilligan wrote years ago, before “Breaking Bad.” He gave another pass and handed the project off to another Sony TV-based showrunner, David Shore. The two are exec producing with Mark Johnson.

Kal Penn, Janet McTeer, Edward Fordham Jr. and Aubrey Dollar round out the cast.

Winters is known for his run on “Rescue Me” and “Oz” and more recently for guest roles on “30 Rock” and “Law & Order: SVU,” among other shows. He’s repped by UTA.
