The Liner/Sleeve Notes:
We have no vocalist anymore!!! DEAD killed himself two weeks ago! It was really brutal, first he cut open the arteries in his the wrists and then he had blown off his brains with a shotgun. I found him and it looked fucking grim, the upper half of his head was all over the room and the lower part of the brain had fallen out of the rest of his head and down on the bed. I of course grabbed my camera and made some photos, we’ll use them in the next Mayhem LP. I and Hellhammer were so lucky that we found two big pieces of his skull that we have hung on necklaces as a memory. DEAD killed himself because he lived only for true old black metal scene and lifestyle. It means black clothes, spikes, crosses and so on. You know, bands like old hellhammer, Bathory and so on but today there are only children in jogging swit and skateboards and hardcore moral ideals, they try to look normal as possible. This has nothing to do with black, these stupid people must fear Black Metal! But instead they love shitty bands like Deicide, Benediction, Napalm Death, Sepultura and all that shit!! We must take this scene to what it was in the past! DEAD died for this cause ad now I have declared WAR! I’m angry but at the same time I have to admit it was interesting to examine a human brain in rigor mortis. Death to false Black Metal and Death Metal! Also to the trendy hardcore people… AAARRGGHH!

EURONYMOUS, April 1991, two weeks after Dead’s suicide.

Personal Review:
So, originally this was going to be posted for Valentines Day, you know valentines day… hearts… ‘Dawn of the Black Hearts’ – get it? Nevermind. Anyways, it also works for a wonderful Friday the 13th record, does it not?

The album opens with the track “Deathcrush” and well, it just goes right out into some guitar playing and really inaudible vocals, the drumming seems to be alright, it sort of picks up a bit too I guess? I guess thought I really can’t complain about the sound quality on this one due to the fact it was recorded live. The drumming is good. I’m a big drum fan. Then we go into some cheering a few guitar strums, then we continue on to “Necrolust” which seems to have more prominent drumming and guitar playing on this track. Lots and lots of drumming, the vocals can barely be heard, so it’s kind of like a really cool jam session. We carry on to the track “Funeral Fog” which opens with a lot of random strumming, crowd chattering, before the drums kind of just come out like gun shots before we hit it with some pretty sweet guitar playing. This time the vocals are slightly more audible, but I still don’t understand them, so it’s kind of disappointing but not all that bad in the end. Crowd cheering. The crowd seems to like the band. The A-Side closes with “Freezing Moon” and Dead introducing the track in this really raspy horror movie type voice, and we go right into that raunchy guitar playing once more. The drums seem to be doing it for me though. That little drum solo in the middle – so great. Crowd cheering.

The B-Side opens with “Carnage” and Dead shouting the songs title, before we go more into the guitar playing once more. I’m like overly enjoying this album, more than I should be. Not too bad, and now talking! Not sure what is being said, but hey, it sounds cool. “Buried by Time and Dust” comes next, and we kind of just go all out insane on the guitar playing and shouting on this track don’t we? At least I like the drumming. Random shout swearing! “Chainsaw Gutsfuck” comes next, and you know, all of these songs rock so far, every part of this album has been great – musically speaking, the vocals always seem to be very inaudible, which really kind of sucks. More crowd cheering. The album ends with “Pure Fucking Armageddon” and well, it’s a whole lot of guitar playing, which is cool, and the drumming isn’t all that bad either, once again, can’t really hear the vocals, but okay!

All in all, not a bad album.
