Welcome to the Debrief, a semi-regular-ish download of news related to sports at the Service Academies, and the intersection of sports and the military.

Diego Fagot is a free agent.

The Baltimore Ravens waived the former Navy linebacker on Tuesday as the club trimmed its roster to 80 players. Fagot – an undrafted rookie this season – was among five players cut by the Ravens.

Fagot played in both of the Ravens’ two preseason games, recording a total of five solo tackles.

A 6-foot-3 native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Fagot was the most recent Navy graduate to get his shot in pro football after a standout career in Annapolis. A three-time All-AAC selection, Fagot racked up 282 tackles in 42 games at Navy. He also had 9.5 sacks, two interceptions, six forced fumbles, and one memorable four-yard rushing attempt in last season’s Army-Navy game.

Fagot was one of four Navy graduates who received permission from the Department of Defense last spring to pursue professional sports. As injuries pile up in this NFL preseason, there’s a chance Fagot could catch on with another team.
