Family: Characidae

Order: Characins

Maximum Size: 5cm (2in)

Lifespan: 4 Years

Water Parameters: Temperatures of 72F-80F (22c-27c), pH: 6.0-7.5

Diet: Omnivorous

Feeding: Micro pellet and quality flake food. Will also accept foods such as brine shrimp, blood worms and tubifex.

Aquarium Setup: The green fire tetra prefers to be in a tank with plants, rocks and some driftwood. They feel most comfortable with plenty of hiding spaces for security and do best in groups of at least 6 or more. They're also mid-level swimmers which enjoy taller plants, as well as floating for additional coverage.

Sexing: Males show white on tips of dorsal, anal and pelvic fins.

Breeding: The green fire tetra is difficult to breed. Females lay few eggs per spawn and need to be taken out immediately after spawn occurs, to reduce loss of eggs. Increasing pairs will increase chances of having a spawn occur.
