Origin: Amazon, Xingu, Iriri Rivers.

Temperament: As with all Baryancistrus species, L177 is quite territorial with other members of the genus. If more than one is to be kept, the group should be at least 6.
Company: Despite their temperament with conspecifics, L177 is quite peaceful with other community fish.

Water Parameters: pH 6.0-6.4, temperature 24-29 ° C / 75-84 ° F

Aquarium Setup: Species L177 should be provided with plenty of caves, especially ones made of rock. They will accept wooden caves; however stony caves will be preferred.

Feeding: Omnivorous - Offer these fish a good mix of veggie matter and meaty fare. While they are not particularly good as algae eaters, they will eat some on occasion. Their dietary preference is bloodworms however they will eat veggies as well. These fish are slower to feed and as such should not be kept with aggressive bottom feeders.

Breeding: Not bred in captivity, although they can be sexed by the odontodal growth on pectoral and cheeks: In males, the odontodal growth will be larger then on the females.
