I think I will need to get myself more breeder traps soon...

Of course it could be just another regular squeezing in a cave thingy... but i'm hopeful...

Latest report... cave is empty... guess we should not count our eggs till they are laid at least :P

Ouch, anti climax? Did you spook them or what? Hopefully they will be at it again soon.

Hmmmn... I didnt do anything different... only shine light once to see what they were up to... most of the time when I see eggs... I leave them alone and at most use a camera (flash photography) to see if they are still there...

possibly inexperienced parents eating the eggs? if that's so it means they will go at it again as soon as they're ready

I never bother my breeding dwarf pleco species by shining light in their caves nor do i ever remove fry. I wait until the fry naturally leave the cave and triple their size in their first 4 weeks, then I remove the fry to their own grow out tank. I do not have losses using this method. The larvae are so delicate they should never be handled unless the male reject or eject them from the cave prematurely. Even this proble may be resolved by just inclining the cave by elevating the cave opening quite a bit after returning ejected eggs or larvae. Parental care is always superior to artificial.

That would work in a species tank... but not otherwise...

After the last L333 spawn, I took the chance to isolate the L333 male for photographs... It resides in a breeder trap for the time being...

A few days later, I noticed my L201 trapping another L201 in the previous cave of the L333... it seems that the theory of only one alpha who is allowed to breed per tank is correct...

Alas it is not to be... as the fishes stopped the trapping a couple of hrs later...

I have to release my isolated L333 today as the L201 laid eggs again... In order to ensure that the eggs are not eaten up, I removed them promptly and placed them in the breeder trap that previously held my isolated male L333...

This time, its a smallish clutch, estimated 20 eggs or so....

Have taken some pictures of the eggs but they arent showing so well. Will probably try again tomorrow if I can find the time...

While I was away I was informed by my parents that a number of the egg got fungused. In their attempt to remove the fungused eggs, quite a number broke!

I have asked them to put some snails to clean up the dead matter. Not sure if the rest or how many will survive. Damn sian.

To prevent future mistakes, can one of the bros here advise what to do to deal with fungused eggs in the future?

Pierce the errant egg with a needle or something similar so it burst.
Then use a pipette to suck up the insides.
Flush with water from the aquarium.

Yes but some LFS may have some for sale too.
I have one that came along with a medication I bought.
And another from the ADA drop checker too.
Also remember seeing a "heavy duty" one that can be used to clean fry traps.
This one is about 10" to 12" in length.

bro, you can try putting some cheap "ghost" shrimps, they may do a good job cleaning the eggs....i had tried on Killifish & corydoras eggs before....
