I started my art training in the mid-eighties, graduating in fine art in the late eighties. My first love was and still is portraiture, specializing in oil painting. Shortly afterward I became active in film-making and academic film criticism. I made several short films, several of which were shown on TV and then became a freelance concept and storyboard artist in the film industry. During this period I also became a lecturer on film and film history at the University of Reading and the University of Oxford.
