Sophia Maria (Fiep) Westendorp (Zaltbommel, December 17, 1916 - Amsterdam, February 3, 2004) was a Dutch artist, who was best known for the drawings of Jip and Janneke. It was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. However, their legendary collaboration only started in 1952 with the adventures of Jip and Janneke on the children's page of Het Parool. From 1952 to 1957, the adventures of Jip and Janneke appeared weekly in this newspaper. Westendorp chose the silhouette when illustrating the stories. Between 1976 and 1984 she redrawed all the illustrations of Jip and Janneke. They remained silhouettes, but became more compact in shape and tighter in line. Later on, Westendorp illustrated Pluk van de Petteflet, Otje and Floddertje, among others. She also illustrated the book Rhymes and verses from the new box by Han G. Hoekstra and made advertising drawings for KLM, among others. From 1957 to 1968, she made illustrations for Mies Bouhuys of the cats Pim and Pom, the successors of Jip and Janneke on the children's page of Het Parool. While archiving Westendorp's drawings, these illustrations were found in plastic bags in a bathroom cabinet. The more than a thousand illustrations by Pim and Pom form the basis for the animated series The Adventures of Pim & Pom. The series won the 2010 Cinekid Award for best children's program.
