The goal was to create a Walkman phone portfolio that would support the strategy "Walkman First". Ideally we wanted to create a lineup that not only were phones with Walkman logo but were designed as Walkman devices from the ground up.
Project started at the end of 2006 as the first product of 2008 Walkman portfolio at Sony Ericsson.
Concept sketches for finding the right interface and form factor.
Hand sketches ensure finding the right expression without losing sight of the big picture.
Most of the details came to life with the help of illustrator sketches.
I made several 3D printed block models exploring both the mechanism and basic material breakup.
The result is a product that is both playful and useful with a hint of retro.
We made sure that the many colors could be applied with ease, creating a harmonious lineup.

Sony Ericsson W350 Walkman was sold globally and was one of the most successful Walkman products.
This was a special project not only for me but many people who were involved. We believed that innovation did not only belonged to the higher tiers of a portfolio. It was also the first time when the UI team and the ID team closely collaborated.
