Tegan and Sara revisited their old demos from the ’90s, and put it into an album called, Hey, I’m Just Like You, which dropped just after midnight on Friday (Sept. 27). The sisters reimagined their teen thoughts as modern indie-pop, and the record was born.
“Defiant and melodramatic, the songs captured the exultation and grief of first loves, first losses, ecstatic kiss-offs, and psychedelic tributes to the friendships we had as teenagers,” the duo said upon announcing the album back in July. “It had been over twenty years since we had heard the songs and quite honestly, we both expected to listen once, cringe, and bury them for another couple decades. But they were good. Like, really good. They were raw, and in some cases the lyrics were hard to decipher. But the melodies, the honesty in the words, and the joy listening to them after all these years was undeniable.”

The 12-track project is also a tribute to feminine energy, as the entire thing is produced, performed, engineered, mixed, and mastered exclusively by women.
The album features previously-released singles, “Don’t Believe the Things They Tell You,” “I’ll Be Back Someday” and the title track.
