Toronto singer-songwriter Lolo has signed a publishing deal with APG, Billboard can exclusively announce today (Feb. 3).

Lolo, born Lauren Mandel, garnered attention in 2020 for TikTok covers, such as her take on Taylor Swift’s “Betty,” where she reimagined the song “from Betty’s perspective.”

The musician has also found success with a stunning cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark,” as well as original song “Hate U,” which sees her flex more of a rock side.

The guitar-driven “Lonely & Pathetic,” the video for which is out today, further evokes pop-punk icons like Avril Lavigne and Paramore. “There, I f–king said it/ Lonely and pathetic/ Lonely and pathetic again,” she shrugs on the livewire chorus.

“I am so beyond thrilled to have signed with APG. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better or more talented team, who in a short period of time has already made me feel like family,” Mandel tells Billboard in a statement.

“Lolo is a powerful and witty lyricist, with a knack for crafting catchy pop songs,” APG CEO and founder Mike Caren adds. “In a short period of time, she has showcased her incredible work ethic, and we are excited to be helping her develop her outstanding songwriting skills.”

“Mike Caren is a legend who I’ve looked up to for years, so it’s surreal and pretty mind blowing that I get to work alongside him now,” Mandel continues. “I’m excited to learn everything I can from him and the rest of the incredible team, to become the best songwriter and artist that I can be.”
