Compact cars usually don’t get a lot of love, but the AMC Pacer has become an icon of the 70’s.

That brings us to this remarkable 1980 Pacer DL that will be auctioned by Mecum next month.  Driven just 1,884 miles (3,032 km) in the past 41 years, this is undoubtedly one of the nicest Pacers in existence.

Given the low mileage, it’s not surprising to learn the car is in “highly original condition” and still sports its original light blue paint job. The model also has bright chrome bumpers and original AMC wheel covers.

The model also has all the quirkiness the Pacer is known for, including a passenger side door that is 4 inches (102 mm) longer than the one on the driver’s side. However, the car is more notable for featuring 5,615 square inches of glass which was more than any other American car on the road, according to a 1975 article from Popular Mechanics.

Moving into the cabin, there are original blue seats and woodgrain trim. The model also comes equipped with options such as air conditioning, an AM/FM radio and power door locks. However, the original owner didn’t opt for power windows as they use a manual crank instead.

A 4.2-liter inline-six resides under the hood and is connected to a three-speed automatic transmission. Drivers will also find power steering and power brakes.

There’s no auction estimate but a similar, if the not the same, 1980 AMC Pacer sold for $28,600 (£20,860 / €24,024) in 2018.
