Chico >> The Kyle Gass Band returns to Chico Monday with an 8 p.m. performance at The Maltese, 1600 Park Ave.

Gass is well versed in acoustic guitar, vocals and flute. The other half of famed comedy rock duo, Tenacious D, Gass has banded together a different lineup showcasing fun, old-school rock.

Vocals and guitar are companied by Mike Bray who was brought into the band by Gass after having been seen the guitarist in Band of Bigfoot.

John Konesky is on the guitar and back-up vocals. He has the distinction of being with Gass since his band began, backing Tenacious D.

Jason Keene has a great talent with the bass and harmonica. The musician has traveled from Japan to Canada and all over the U.S. Having experience with multiple bands has honed his talents that much more.

Jamie Douglass rounds out the band as the newest member bringing a solid backing on the drums.

“Even if we break even, and the turnouts aren’t great, we’re still having the best time you could possibly have,” Gass said.

There are many influences which bring music to this world but there were a few which influenced the members of the Kyle Gass Band to come together the way it has.

“For me it was the Beatles,” he said. “My brothers were into classical music and I loved the Beatles and rock ‘n’ roll.”

As for the rest of the band, Konesky summed it up best by saying, “I can speak for most of us when I say, I grew up loving rock ‘n’ roll, particularly from the ’60s and ’70s. I’m not trying to perpetrate that tired old argument that music isn’t as good as it was, because I’ve been listening to some awesome new (stuff); but as far as influences, it was always dusty old classic rock.”

Show is for those 21 and older.
