Suzuki/WRC

The thing I love the most about WRC rallying is that the vehicles often have the most humble beginnings. Case in point: The Suzuki SX4 WRC, which is based on the same platform as the unassuming Suzuki SX4 Sport we tested recently.

Suzuki SX4 WRC
The Suzuki SX4 WRC is about as similar to the SX4 Sport as an Evo is to a base model Lancer. Suzuki

The SX4 WRC features a turbocharged 2-liter four-banger, an all-wheel-drive system, and a beefier suspension that can handle the abuses of off-road driving. It has, of course, lost the full interior--there's no SuzukiTRIP to guide you to your destination. In it's place you have an actual navigator in the passenger seat. There's also no stereo system, but if you listen closely, you'll hear the whistling tweet of the turbo's blow-off valve as the SX4 WRC careens around unpaved turns at break-neck speed. A full roll cage ensures that break-neck speeds don't beget actual broken necks.

Check out this compilation video of the SX4 WRC slip sliding around a variety of rally circuits. Perhaps one day we'll see the SX4 WRC terrorizing the same mountain roads as the mighty Evo and STi (which started their lives as modest Lancers and Imprezas). Enjoy!
