What’s with the clothes? Aren’t you supposed to be naked? And thanks for the post, interesting information.

Yes of course it’s better to be naked in sauna. But I would NEVER post naked photos online, obviously! It would not be ok!

I am 1/2 Finn. I grew up with a sauna/steam bath! My dad built all the ones we ever had. The older kids in the family would jump in the lake after, but my sister & I were very young and were only allowed to roll in the snow. Very good for the body/skin

    Hi Alex,

Is it the “sauna” effect that you seem to be so exciting, smiling and adventurous?. Well, now I got to know the real reason of how you keep yourself rejuvenated and refreshed every single time you undertake your journey. :)
Well, not forget to mention, you are an inspiring figure for many here in India.

    Hi,

We’ve been frequent visitors to Finland for over 25 years, have abunch of good frieds there, a god child and best woman to our marriage. After a couple of years we got the “sauna bug” too so we built our own sauna in our house (acctually just getting ready to go in in about 15 minutes. When interacting with Finns, you learn this dismiss all the new age and health hocus pocus,…… get naked, (your natural state) enjoy the Löyly (steam/ breath /spirit) relax, have a beer and a sausage and more sauna, relax some more and so on, untill you feel you’ve had enough. It’s a family and friends thing (you also make friends there…) share it with you’re kids… our 10 year old son has been joining since he was three months old…..and by the way that one beer (it has a name….saunakalia) that is the best, most refreshing beverage you ever had in your life……drink plenty of water too while your’e at it.

once you’ve gotten used to have sauna as part of you’re “getting clean” habits…..you can never go back…..so think before you start…..It’s adictive :-)

    A Finn

I am pretty sure that none of those articles that talk about “toxins” have been written by Finns, as only the people who don’t understand the sauna culture tend to talk about them, not Finns. For Finns the sauna is a place for bathing and relaxation, often alone or only with the family. And as far as I know, there really are no proper studies about what those “toxins” are and how sweating is supposed to help you get rid of them. It’s the kidneys that do that job, and excessive sweating can even be bad for them.

Maybe you are right, I have no idea where all those articles about toxins in sauna appeared. But seeing the Finnish traditions, most probably not in Finland :)
