Sarah Harding had always dreamed of becoming a mum, before her tragic death to cancer, according to her former boyfriend.

Chad Johnson dated the former Girls Aloud singer after the pair appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, which Sarah went on to win.

The 34-year-old American reality TV star said when they were together during their whirlwind romance, Sarah had expressed her desire to have children, a role he says she would have been "amazing" at.

He told The Sun : “Sarah wanted to be a mum but she never got to do that. That feels very sad for me. I always thought Sarah would have been an amazing mum.

“She had such a motherly vibe, she was very caring towards the people she loved. And she loved children.

“She would have been obsessed with her kids in the best way. It was just in her nature.”

Sarah, 39, passed away on Sunday following a battle with breast cancer. Before her death she released a book, Hear Me Out, in which she said she was devastated after learning her chemotherapy killed any chance she had left of having children.

She told fans she was "fighting as hard as I possibly can", but despite her bravery, the singer passed away on September 5.

Her mum Marie announced her death, sharing her "deep heartbreak" at her loss, adding: "she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day."

Tributes from Sarah's friends and family have been pouring in since her passing, including from her Girls Aloud bandmates, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts.

Cheryl said: "Although we knew this day would arrive I am somehow still feeling at a loss for words that our stunning, unique, crazy, quirky, kind and soft hearted girl has departed."

Devastated Kimberley also paid tribute: "Beautiful Sarah this hurts so bad. To wake up and know that you are really gone is too much to bear. Hearing your infectious chuckle was one of my favourite things in the world. Your fire burned so bright and you loved, lived and laughed so hard. Sending love and strength to everyone who is grieving today. My heart is broken."

Nicole paid tribute to the "electric girl" of the group and Chad told The Sun Sarah thought of her bandmates as 'sisters'.

He added: '“Sarah loved to talk about her Girls Aloud girls. She made it clear they were very close friends, which wasn’t surprising given how many years they had been together.

“I think Sarah really missed the girls. They were like her sisters."
