Vincent Margera, the actor who portrayed “Uncle Don Vito” on the MTV show “Viva La Bam,” has been charged with 12 counts of violating his bail bond conditions.

The Jefferson County district attorney’s office filed the new complaints – each a class 6 felony charge – on Aug. 6.

Margera, 50, pleaded not guilty in March to two counts of sexual assault on a child. The charges stem from an autograph-signing appearance a year ago at the Colorado Mills mall skateboard park in Lakewood.

Margera is accused of touching or grabbing the buttocks and breasts of two underage girls.

He has been allowed to return to his home in Pennsylvania as he awaits trial, which has been continued to Oct. 22.

The terms and conditions of his pretrial supervision included checking in by telephone twice a week, random urinalysis by an approved provider, no contact with children under the age of 18 and no drugs or alcohol.

The stipulations also include that if Margera travels on business, he must provide his pretrial services supervisor with his itinerary, including where he is going, how, when, for how long and why.

Jefferson County district attorney’s spokeswoman Pam Russell said she could not comment on what the alleged bond violations are.

Margera will be advised of his rights and the bond charges against him on Sept. 5.

Woman on inner tube rescued from S. Platte

A rescue operation by the Sheridan Fire Department and the Littleton Fire Department dive team was successful Monday afternoon in a dangerous section of the South Platte River.

The rescue took place near West Union Avenue and South Santa Fe Drive, in an area of the river known as the chutes.

A woman who had been tubing was stuck on a sand bar surrounded by swift running water.

Rescue teams were called out at about 1:30 p.m.

Roland Seno, with the Littleton department, said the rescue was complete and the woman was not injured.

EVERGREEN

N.M. ex-firefighter new fire-rescue chief

Garry DeJong, a retired battalion chief with the Albuquerque Fire Department who has 20 years of firefighting experience, has been named the new fire chief of Evergreen Fire Rescue.

The Evergreen Fire Protection District board announced DeJong as its unanimous choice on Friday.

Details are still being worked out on salary and benefits. The announcement came after a three-month search to replace Joel Janov, who stepped down in April.

The district and the Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department have been at odds, including on Janov’s leadership.

Recall of two district board members, David Klaus and Phil Shanley, will be decided in a special election on Nov. 6.

Property-tax hike to be sought for libraries

Douglas County voters will be asked on the Nov. 6 ballot to pay more in property taxes to fund libraries.

The Douglas County Libraries Board of Trustees will ask for a 1.25-mill increase to build and operate libraries in Parker and Lone Tree.

The proposed 45,000-square foot Parker library is projected to cost $12 million. The Lone Tree library, at 36,500 square feet, is expected to cost $13 million, if approved by voters.

Community leaders in Parker and Lone Tree have pledged to donate land for their proposed libraries.

If passed, the levy would add an average of $30 a year to property-tax bills in the library district.

“Now the voters will decide on the next chapter in the history of Douglas County Libraries,” Jamie LaRue, director of Douglas County Libraries, said in a statement.

Elk herd larger than believed, state says

A northwest Colorado elk herd is two to three times larger than originally believed, state wildlife officials say.

The Bears Ears herd is now estimated at 23,000 to 45,000, state Division of Wildlife officials said. Previous estimates put the herd at 11,000 to 15,000 animals.

The new count is based on a spring survey of elk herd ranges using three helicopters and one airplane.

“We used a grid system to count the elk on the ground,” DOW wildlife biologist Darby Finley said. “We flew over 1,754 miles of winter range and counted 4,119 elk.” Some northwest Colorado landowners had complained for years that the DOW elk estimates were faulty.

Church announces leader will resign

The Church of the Holy Comforter announced Monday that its leader, the Rev. Charles Reeder, will resign and leave the Episcopal Church on Oct. 1.

Holy Comforter’s vestry, children’s minister, youth minister and treasurer also will resign and follow Reeder’s move within the greater Anglican Communion Network.

“We are saddened by the current state of the Episcopal Church in the United States, which we believe has strayed from the orthodox, scriptural beliefs of the worldwide Anglican Communion,” Reeder said in a statement released Monday.

The congregation has been disturbed by the Episcopal Church’s departure from Anglican orthodoxy, including the blessing of homosexual unions and ordination of an openly gay bishop, since at least 2003, Senior Warden John Bosio said Monday.

“It’s a larger issue than the issue of sexuality,” Bosio said. “It goes to the authority of Scripture and following rules … of the Anglican Communion.”

Holy Comforter members began withholding contributions in 2006 to protest, Bosio said.

Bosio said he would be meeting with the bishop’s office in the near term to discuss disposition of church property, which carries a sizable mortgage.
