Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson has confirmed her next lead movie role in My Mother's Wedding.

The Marvel star will team up with Slow Horses and Fleabag's Kristin Scott Thomas for the project, the latter making her directorial debut with the film.

Johansson has been cast alongside Anatomy of a Scandal's Sienna Miller, Cruella's Emily Beecham and Slumdog Millionaire's Freida Pinto, according to Deadline.

There are no details regarding the plot of My Mother's Wedding, though Thomas will direct, and will also co-write alongside John Micklethwait, with production having already started.

Johansson has a busy workload coming up, with the actress due to reunite with Marvel co-star Chris Evans on Apple TV+'s Project Artemis. The space race-set movie will be written by Rose Gilroy.

The reunion comes after the pair were due to come together again for Apple TV+'s Ghosted, before Johansson had to pull out over scheduling conflicts. She is also due to star in Wes Anderson's Asteroid City.

On top of that, the actress is working on a new Marvel project, which was first announced last year by boss Kevin Feige.

"We are already working with Scarlett on another non-Black Widow related top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer," he said.

"Scarlett is one of the most talented, versatile, and beloved actors of our time. It has truly been a pleasure to work with someone of her caliber, from the epic training sessions preparing for the hallway fight in Iron Man 2 to the around-the-world press tour for Avengers: Endgame to partnering with you as a producer on Black Widow.

"Working with you, Scarlett, has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career."
