Mischa Barton, star of The OC, wants fans of The Hills to know that, no, she has not been axed from the revival's upcoming season.

Mischa, who those of a certain age will remember best as Marissa Cooper, responded to tabloid rumours that she had been 'replaced' by Caroline D'Amore in season two of The Hills: New Beginnings on Instagram.

Alongside a screenshot from US Weekly, Mischa dismissed reports that she would no longer be appearing in the iconic MTV reality series, writing: "Lol. Where do people get their reporting from?"

Getting in a dig at Caroline D'Amore's pasta sauce business, Mischa added: "As if anyone would watch @carolinedamore try to hoc her boring ass pasta bowls 🍝👀 and greasy pizza on TV.

"Tried that it was like watching paint dry. 😂 Get the story straight first."

Mischa was confirmed for The Hills' reboot ahead of its release last summer, with the actress promising that the updated series will be "more real" than the 'constructed reality' original. "This is completely different this time round, because it's not the same production company. It's not the same thing, it's more real," she explained.

"Obviously [the cameras] can't be everywhere all the time, so it depends on what happens with people over the course of filming and that dictates where the filming goes, so it's the same for everyone.

"It can feel like it's set up but it's really not. It's dictated by what drama's going on."

Something's telling us this isn't the last we'll be hearing of Mischa and Caroline's rivalry, then.

The Hills: New Beginnings airs on MTV.
