Doris Irene Petersen, age 96, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at her home. Doris was born March 1, 1926 in Columbus, Nebraska. She was daughter of John and Irene (Dolan) Putnam.
After graduating high school in 1943, Doris moved to Morris, IL and was employed at the Morris Paper Mill as a spot welder during the War Years. Doris met Frank Petersen, while he was on leave from the Army, and the rest is history. They were married on November 28, 1946. Together, while raising their family, they lived in Champaign, IL, Lebanon IN, Park Forest IL and Metuchen and Edison NJ where she retired from Allied Conditioning in 1987 as an executive secretary. In 1990, they moved to Kansas City to enjoy retirement. They were active members at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She volunteered at St. Joseph Medical Center and the Seton Center.
She was preceded in death by her son, William Van Petersen, five brothers and three sisters.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Frank W. Petersen, daughter Susan Tobler and husband, William "Toby", daughter Rebecca Zielinski and husband, Robert, grandchildren, Jamie Doris Rattray and husband, Danny, Brian Tobler and wife, Laurie, Teresa Irene Sherman and husband, Tucker, Robert Zielinski and Joseph Zielinski, great grandchildren, Paige Tobler, Brock Tobler, Lindsay Tobler, Connor Tobler, Kamila Irene Sherman and a sister Donna Pfeifer.
Above all, Doris loved God, her family and times spent together. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered every time we hear a Neil Diamond song or see a red cardinal.
