    Texas Instuments TI-83 Rocks!

The TI-83 is capable of so many math calculations I could never master them all. It is great for algebra, trig, calculus, and much more. Great for students. The price for pre-owned calculators is low. I recommend it if you need this type of calculator.

    Complete Disappointment

What I cannot say, for sure, is whether my disappointment stems from receiving a more-used-than-claimed item, or if it's the item's quality, in general. We had it for less than a month; the display went completely bad. I've since learned that this seems to be the case with others who have purchased this calculator.

  • I recommend the TI85 for high school and college students for math classes

I purchased this product as my son is taking a Geometry class in high school and the teacher requires that students have at least a 'basic' graphing calculator. She also stated, though, that if the student is college-bound, they should get a more sophisticated graphing calculator. I read several web sites that compared TI (the best) models. Though the TI85 is not the top model, it has all the features that my son will need for several years of math, up to, and including calculus. The screen is easy to read with multiple lines. It has a good memory capacity. It also allows him to download data to his computer. Unless you need a much higher memory capacity, I would recommend the TI85 for high school students and college students for math classes.

  • Ti-85's pros and cons.

The ti85 has been out of production for a few years now, but I still find it's functionality very useful. It's unit conversion features are particularly useful if you are a student in chemistry, physics, engineering or drafting. It doesn't have a lot of memory, but it does allow for special file types that the ti-82 and earlier models did not, so at the time it was a big deal. I bought one on here partly out of nostalgia, and partly to keep around in case I need it.

  • TI-85 Limitations

The Ti-85 is a great calculator. But people should be aware of it's limitations in the college setting. For most all students taking just normal maths and calculus it works awesome. However, engineering students should take note. It's very inefficient and complex working with higher tier maths and especially complex numbers found in Electrical Engineering and Phasors, etc. I recommend the Ti-85 for everything up to Calculus 3/4. Differential Equations, Sohpmore+ Engineering courses such as Circuit Analysis, Power, Systems, etc. Definitely go with AT LEAST TI-86 but highly recommend looking at TI-89,
