Echinodorus x 'Barthii'

Echinodorus x 'Barthii' is more commonly known in the United States aquarium trade as red melon sword plant.  It was initially introduced to the hobby with the name "E. osiris 'Double Red'".  In 1986 it was erroneously described as a good species.  Lter, it was discovered to have been hybridized by an Australian grower. All of this has lead to quite a bit of confusion in the name of this pretty plant.

Burgundy red submerged leaves are the highlight of this aquarium plant.  Echinodorus x 'Barthii' is one of the more compact  and slower growing sword plants allowing it to be planted in midground areas of the aquarium.
