IRENE PETERSEN

Irene was born March 27, 1920, in Syracuse, Nebraska, to Carl and Ella Halvorsen. She passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, in Syracuse, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 14 days.

Irene married Alvin Petersen on December 16, 1945, in Syracuse, Nebraska. To this union they raised 4 children Janine, Lyle, Lois, and Geri. During her lifetime, she worked several different jobs, such as homemaker, a Dispatcheras for the Handi-Bus , a Nurses Aid, a Rural School Teacher, and a Telephone Operator. Irene was a member of Christ Lutheran (Delaware), Syracuse, the VFW #5547 Auxiliary, Christ Lutheran Church Women, and Aid Associations for Lutherans. Irene was a volunteer for the Syracuse Food Pantry, was a 4-H Leader, and a Sunday School Teacher.

Irene is survived by her son Lyle and wife Barbara, of Mars Hill, N.C., daughters Janine Petersen, of Syracuse, NE, Lois Linke and husband Karl, of Syracuse, NE, Geri True, of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren Tim and Tami Linke, Mandy and Brian Smidt, Sydney and Anna True, great grandchildren Jackson Linke, Payton and Garrett Smidt, 2- sisters Agnes Petersen, of Syracuse, NE, Violet Whiteaker, 3- brothers Forrest Halvorsen, of Syracuse, NE, Marshall Halvorsen, of Lincoln, NE, and Robert Halvorsen, of Lincoln, NE. Irene is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin Petersen, and sister Esther Rosenthal.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 12th from 1 until 9 P.M. and Friday, February 13th from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with the family to greet and receive family and friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. all at the funeral home, the casket will be Open one hour before Church Services.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church (Delaware, Rural Syracuse, Nebraska, with burial at the Church Cemetery.
**IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the family requests memorials to Lutheran World Relief, Christ Lutheran Church (Delaware), or Syracuse Food Pantry.
