The Panama Sturgeon Catfish, Sturisoma panamense, originates from the Amazon basin between Colombia and Panama. To feel comfortable, this fish needs root wood and floating plants in the aquarium, which dim the light. The aquarium should have at least 400l volume for a pair.
Sturisoma panamense can be kept together with other species without any problems, as long as they do not live on the bottom. The pH of the water should be between 6,5 and 7,5 and the hardness range should be about 10 to 20° dGH. The fish feel comfortable at a water temperature of 22-26° Celsius and reach a size of up to 25 cm.
As omnivores, these fish accept vegetable flake food as well as small frozen and live food. Upon delivery, Sturisoma panamense are 4-6 cm in size, but variations are possible.
