In a move that makes us feel all the nostalgia, star of our hearts and many a romcom Cameron Diaz has confirmed that she is coming out of retirement.

She will star alongside Jamie Foxx in a Netflix film that seems to be named perfectly for her: Back In Action

We don't know many details about the movie yet, only that it's an “action comedy” and is due to be directed by Seth Gordon, who helmed comedy classic Horrible Bosses. Exciting.

The duo starred in 1999 film Any Given Sunday – for the uninitiated, it's a sports drama also starring Al Pacino – and Foxx and Diaz will now reunite for the Netflix title, which is due to start production later this year.

The announcement was made in a truly hype-worthy way, with Jamie Foxx posting a recording of himself on the phone to Cameron Diaz, transferring in American sports star Tom Brady to give Diaz advice on how to “un-retire.”

“I’m relatively successful at un-retiring,” Brady jokes, and he's right. The American football quarterback un-retired within 40 days of retiring earlier this year.

Confirming the news, Diaz posted on her Instagram story: “Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!! I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!”

We're over the moon to have her back, and we're equally glad that Diaz took the space she needed from the industry. She opened up to Kevin Hart last year about her reasons for stepping away, and she summed up the pressures of the entertainment industry perfectly.

“It's fun to do, I love it, I love acting, I could go forever, I sometimes feel like I have unlimited energy and inertia," she said. "I just looked around and there were so many parts of my life that I wasn't touching and that I wasn't managing, and I couldn't really manage, because everything was so massive.”

“Fame is very infantilising,” she added during an appearance on Michelle Visage’s Rule Breakers podcast. “They treat you like you’re so precious you can’t do anything for yourself, everything should be done for you… It very much takes away from your own sense of autonomy and ability to take care of yourself.”

Welcome back to our queen of boundaries. We can't wait to see what you do next.
