Tenet actor Robert Pattinson is currently filming scenes for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Due for release in 2022, after the pandemic put a temporary halt to filming, it is set to be one of the darkest portrayals of the DC Comics superhero to date.

And the brooding and eccentric Pattinson, who rose to fame after his role as moody teenager Edward Cullen in Twilight and plays the titular character in Reeves’ film, is more than up to the job and not just because of his acting (remember when he attended the Dior Autumn/Winter 2019 menswear show in a draped and oversized brown overcoat that screamed “I have an affiliation with bats”?).

Well, he’s proven that he (or his wardrobe at least) is made for the role once again. GQ got an exclusive look at Pattinson’s latest greyscale campaign for the aforementioned Parisian brand and you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s an actual advertisement for the upcoming movie.

Shot by legendary photographer David Sims, the longstanding friend of the house delivers a lesson in contemporary formalwear, sporting an angular, peak-lapelled double-breasted suit in a Prince of Wales check from Jones’ recently released Modern Tailoring collection, which features the British designer’s signature strap across the breast. A worthy replacement for his on-screen bat suit, we think.

Additionally, Pattinson is cloaked in yet more bat cave-worthy outerwear. Another is a drapey double-breasted peacoat, this time from Jones’ Judy Blame-inspired Spring 2021 Dior men’s collection, which features an exaggerated shawl-wraparound neck, as well as an uber-luxurious cashmere single-breasted coat with a removable beaver-fur collar detail that would suit billionaire Bruce Wayne just fine.

And even the footwear is enough to give him superhero status. Pattinson has slipped into a pair of Jones’ B27 sneakers, which launched earlier this year. Fusing a chunky, flat-form skater style with an oversized, retro 1980s tennis sneaker silhouette, the calfskin and Dior oblique jacquard-detailed kicks are some of the chicest you can get your feet into right now.
